Hyderabad: Irregular tippers too are at fault
Hyderabad: Each auto tipper is allocated 600-800 houses per day and each household pays Rs 50 under the GHMC’s scheme. The drivers collect garbage every second or third day. This is leading to accumulation of garbage in houses and on streets, which is also leading to the breeding of mosquitoes.
Auto-tippers have been distributed ward wise, but not as per population.
For instance Charminar has been allotted 222 tippers, while Uppal has 44 and Kapra 66. Thus tipper drivers are unable to lift waste on a regular basis.
Since GHMC did away with over 1,000 vulnerable garbage points, i.e. street dumper bins, many people throw trash on to the roads when the tipper drivers don’t come.
GHMC commissioner B. Janardhan Reddy said, “Once waste is collected from houses, the tippers take it to temporary dumping stations. In certain areas drivers have to travel a long distance to dump the waste, leading to additional fuel burden. Thus tipper drivers often dump waste in certain uncleared vulnerable garbage points.”
He said there was a need to increase the temporary transfer stations from 25 to 50. Also, the auto tippers will be distributed evenly as per the requirement.
