Hyderabad in jam, in rain and when it's dry

Traffic crawled when weather was good, when it rained.

Hyderabad: Though it did not rain on Monday morning, the city saw traffic snarls at many places, mainly thanks to pothole-ridden, damaged roads. It took at least half hour longer than usual for people to commute on Monday.

Ms M. Sirisha, an IT employee who regularly commutes from Kacheguda to Gachibowli, said, “It usually takes around 60-75 minutes for me to reach Gachibowli, but on Monday it took me around two hours.

The traffic jams started right from Kacheguda; there were jams at Lakdikapul, then Masab Tank, Mehdipatnam, Toli Chowki, Shaikpet and Raidurgam. It got better only near the Biodiversity Park in Gachibowli. Due to a lot of waiting along the way, I had to shell out more than usual for cab fare.”

A rather sarcastic take on the issue on Twitter was by Mr Anvesh Sankoori, who posted, “Buy some milk n strawberry powder, travel for 5 mins on Hyderabad roads & u’ll end up with a strawberry milkshake!” He addressed it to the Twitter handle of minister for municipal administration and urban development K.T. Rama Rao.

Another person posted, “For the love of us people who have to deal with the washed out roads and craters, please stop raining.” One Mr Yogesh posted, “Rain & Traffic ... it’s daily story in #hyderabad”.

Khairatabad crossroads, Banjara Hills Road number 1 and 12, Greenlands flyover towards HPS were some of the worst affected areas since Monday morning.
