‘Maulana Azad stood for Hindu-Muslim unity’
KOZHIKODE: The Calicut University Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Chair and department of History on Monday conducted a seminar on Maulana Abul Kalam Azad titled 'Azad: Islam and the Indian National Movement' on Calicut University campus. Vice-Chancellor Dr. K. Mohammed Basheer inaugurated the event.
Noted author Dr. Syeda Saiyidain Hameed delivered the keynote address. She said that Azad was a great thinker, who had emphasised on Hindu-Muslim unity rather than Swaraj.
She commented that Azad believed that Muslims should co-operate with Hindus just as the Prophet associated with Jews. He also believed that the legacy of Muslims and their socio-educational backwardness was adherence to tradition and dangerous.
Noted historian Dr. K.K.N. Kurup also addressed the gathering.
