Hyderabad: Dad and minor driver held for accident that killed baby

Fourteen-month-old Mahadev died in the accident.

Hyderabad: A man and his minor son, who was involved in a fatal road accident, were were arrested by the Bowenpally police on Monday.

A 14-month-old boy died, while his twin brother, mother and grandmother survived with injuries when the 16-year-old minor driver drove an SUV (TS09 EN 1987) into an autorickshaw in which the victims were travelling at Bowenpally on Sunday. The accident occurred at Dairy Farm crossroads.

Inspector P. Chandra Shekar said that following investigations, it was established the the car was being driven by a minor, a resident of Alwal. A case has been registered against him and his father Md Farooq, owner of the car, who let the minor to drive it as the onus lies on him,” he said.

The Bowenpally police booked a case under IPC Sections 304(2) (culpable homicide not amounting to murder), 324 and 326 (voluntarily causing hurt, 109 (abetment), and provisions of the Motor Vehicle Act.

Fourteen-month-old Mahadev died in the accident. His twin brother Madhav, mother Sandhya and grandmother Nagamani as well as autorickshaw driver K. Raju were injured and were taken to hospital.
