Adilabad: A girl Ch. Jyotika of Dubarpet village, struggling to hold her tears back, told the collector Divya Devarajan in her mother tongue Gondi, that she had lost her class and notebooks, pens and pencils and uniform in the floods that washed away their make shift house and also all their belongings.
Heart touching scenes were witnessed at the rehabilitation centre being run at market yard for displaced people at Ichoda on Sunday.
The collector comforted the girl in Gondi language and said there was no need to worry and promised to provide whatever she lost and told her in Gondi ‘Sandi Seenthum’.
Adivasis feel more comfortable when somebody comforts them in their mother tongue. Collector Divya Devarajan has learnt Gondi language to interact effectively with the Adivasis.
The Collector comfortably sat on the floor along with the displaced people in the rehabilitation centre and interacted with them and promised all possible help to them.
Other district collectors are also sending relief material including blankets, food items, kitchen items and utensils as relief to the Adilabad district.
Surprisingly, the Wanaparthy collector sent 104 school uniforms to the students of the Adilabad district which was most affected by the floods.
So far, nearly 1.57 lakh worth of material including utensils and blankets and food items were sent to the displaced people by the NGOs and various associations in the Adilabad district.
Collector Divya Devarajan extensively visited the displaced and flood affected areas in the Adilabad district in the last two days and personally assessed the gravity of the flood devastation.
District administration has focussed on the safety and security of the students of the Tribal Ashram Schools for girls which were flooded following the heavy rains.
