Guntur: Quota sought for houses

The MHPS said Muslims were living in extreme poverty but that the government was not giving them priority in the housing scheme.

GUNTUR: The Muslim Hakkula Porata Samiti demanded 10 per cent reservations to minority Muslims in the Housing for All Scheme.

The leaders announced that MHPS would organise a Maha Dharna at the collectorate in Guntur on August 23 seeking reservation to minorities in housing scheme.

Addressing the media in Guntur on Saturday, MHPS state president Sk Khaja Vali said a majority of the Muslims do not have own houses and were being forced to shell out extra money towards rents in the Capital regoin which have increased multifold, after bifurcation of the state.

He wanted the TD to fulfill its election promise to Muslim community on providing employment to the youth, pucca houses and land. He demanded allotment of 10 per cent of the houses under Housing For All scheme to Muslims in AP.

MHPS district secretary Sk Mustafa urged the Muslims to take part in the dharna to be staged on August 23.
