Thiruvananthapuram: Four fishermen go missing

The missing fisherman has been identified as Puthiyathura natives Louis and Benny, Yesudas and Anthony from Kochupalli.

Thiruvananthapuram: Four fishermen from Vizhinjam have gone missing as monsoon turned sea rough in the state capital. Special search team under coastal protection force and marine enforcement has launched a search for the fishermen, who went to the sea on Wednesday evening. The missing fisherman has been identified as Puthiyathura natives Louis and Benny, Yesudas and Anthony from Kochupalli.

They were expected to reach the shore on Friday morning. The situation turned worse when the fisher-folks of the fishing hamlets at Vizhinjam came out in numbers to seeking action on the missing fishermen. However, the search team couldn’t find them yet because of the rough sea.

The state capital on Friday received 29.01 mm rainfall. The low lying areas are underwater and the rough sea has advan-ced swallowing houses in the coastal belts in the district. As per the IMD prediction, the monsoon is likely to intensify in the coming days. The state capital has been put on high alert and the authorities have warned the public as flooding and landslides could happen. The authorities have alerted tourists and public to avoid beaches.
