Swami Paripoornananda externment: VHP, Bajrang Dal stir foiled
HYDERABAD: Hundreds of activists affiliated to various right wing organisations were detained by the police in and around the city when they came on to the roads to protest the externment of Swami Paripoorananda. The right wing organizations including the Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal along with Bhartiya Janata Party had given a “chakkajam” (road block) call on Thursday.
A prominent religious figure, Swami Paripoorananda was externed from Hyderabad, Cyberabad and Rachakonda police commissionerates, for six months for the “controversial speeches” delivered by him in various parts of the State. Through the day, several activists descended upon important junctions in the city and tried to stage a sit-in. In the city, the activists had identified about 30 junctions for their protest.
The alert police were ready with police and private vehicles and they prevented the activists from staging any protest. Instead they were bundled into waiting police vans and shifted to various police stations. High drama prevailed at Goshamahal police station when a person who was detained in connection with the protest climbed on to the roof of the station and threatened to jump. The police personnel spread a safety net and later succeeded in bringing him down.
