A black belt to fight pollution: Hyderabad High Court
Hyderabad: Expressing displeasure at the apathy of the Central Pollution Control Board authorities (CPCB), the Hyderabad High Court on Thursday observed that due this apathy “green belts” are turning into “brown belts”.
A division bench comprising Chief Justice Thottathil Bhaskaran Nair Radhakrishnan and Justice Ramesh Ranganathan, while dealing with a petition by Dr Reddy Laboratories cautioned the Pollution Control Board authorities, that the court would also prepare a “black belt” (karate) to deal with them for their failure in taking timely actions.
The bench directed the CPCB authorities to place the report within 24 hours explaining the action being taken to control the pollution in Patancheru and Bolarum industrial areas and also the action on the representation of Dr Reddy Laboratories for expansion of its unit.
Counsel for the petitioner told the court that they had applied for the expansion in March 2015 and till date the CPCB has not responded and they even are not aware that it had conducted any study or not.
While seeking the report from the CPCB, the bench adjourned the case to Friday.
