Singaravelar award, more welfare measures declared
Chennai: The State government on Wednesday announced excellence award in the name of “Sinthanai Sirpi” Singaravelar carrying a purse of Rs 1 lakh besides a sovereign gold medallion.
The award, Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami, said would be given to those who write books in Tamil on science, work for development of society, egalitarian principles and for welfare of labourers on Tamil New Year.
He also announced establishing a Tamils’ Culture and Heritage Museum featuring the hoary cultural tradition of the Tamil people at a total cost of Rs 50 crore at Madurai Ulaga Tamizh Sangam.
About Rs 15 crore would be allotted for the purpose in the initial phase this year and announced measures for various departments including labour and employment, Tamil development, tourism, culture and Hindu religious and charitable endowment and environment and forest.
Making announcement under rule 110, the CM said, the death relief for unorganised sector employees would be increased to Rs 20,000 from Rs 15,000 and funeral expenses on the death of unorganised sector workers will be increased to Rs 5,000 from Rs 2,000.
