New districts will benefit only contractors, not people: Forum
Hyderabad: The Forum for Good Governance on Tuesday strongly opposed the Telangana government’s move to reorganise districts. It demanded the government to come out with a white paper on the need for new districts. FGG secretary M. Padmanabha Reddy alleged that the government’s decision will only help realtors, contractors and politicians. People in general will only get fringe benefits from creation of new districts, Mr Reddy said.
He said that government’s thought process on getting more funds from the Centre for the new districts was not correct. “There are certain guidelines regarding distribution of Central funds. In rare cases, a district is taken as a unit for releasing Central funds. Reorganising larger districts is understandable, but creating 15 new districts in a single go is not advisable,” he said. Mr Reddy stated that a huge chunk of public money would be spent on administration in districts, mostly on salaries of employees.
