Vijayawada: Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu offered puja and harati to Krishna river at the confluence of Godavari water in Krishna river at Ibrahimpatnam in Krishna district. Mr Naidu was seen lost in the moment, his eyes closed as his lips uttered prayers. Irrigation department engineers and legislators of the district also offered puja when the CM encouraged them to do so.
Speaking later, Mr Naidu said the government managed to link the rivers despite intense and meaningless criticism from the Opposition. He expressed total satisfaction with Krishna-Godavari linkage and recalled that Sir Arthur Cotton had advocated interlinking of rivers.
The CM said that his government was able to save crops worth Rs 2,500 worth during last kharif. Stating that Pattiseema was taken up to tackle water scarcity, he said that until the Polavaram project is complete, the right canal will be main source of irrigation needs.
