BENGALURU: Lambasting leaders of Opposition BJP for announcing plans to launch state wide agitation over the suicide of two police officers, KPCC president Dr G Parameshwar and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Tuesday declared that their party would soon launch a counter offensive to expose the BJP.
Speaking to reporters here, Dr Parameshwar said the Congress would expose the "false propaganda" and "politics" of BJP and JD(S) through its state-wide programme involving MPs, MLAs and local leaders. "We will not let them off the hook so easily," he added.
Slamming BJP and JD(S), Mr Siddaramaiah said, "Doesn't he (H.D. Kumaraswamy) have criminal cases. His wife is also facing a criminal case. They (both BJP and JDS) should introspect. Those living in glass houses should not pelt others with stones."
Rebutting Mr Kumaraswamy's charge that the Chief Minister was facing five cases, which he had not disclosed in the election affidavit, Mr Siddaramaiah scoffed at him and said all the five cases registered during his fight for public cause were closed in 2008.
Lashing out at the BJP, the CM declared that the BJP was unnecessarily trying to politicize former police officer, Anupama Shenoy's resignation issue. "The BJP is trying to politicize the resignation issue. This is wrong. We will expose them," Mr Siddaramaiah added.
The duo chose to attack the opposition a day after Bengaluru development minister K J George quit in the light of an order by a local court in Madikeri that the local police register a FIR against the minister and two senior IPS officers in the case relating to suicide of DySP Ganapati.
Legislators of both these parties had stalled proceedings in both Houses of legislature demanding a CBI probe into Mr Ganapati’s suicide as well as resignation of Mr George.
Later, they agreed for a judicial inquiry but did not heed pleas to give up their demand for exit of the minister. Hours before Mr George’s exit, leaders of BJP met Governor Vajubhai Vala and sought his intervention even as the ruling Congress ensured passage of several important bills in the Legislative Assembly and the Legislative Council.
