Devotees throng Sai Baba temples on Guru Purnima
Visakhapatnam: Guru Purnima was celebrated with gusto across the city on Tuesday. Since morning, a large number of people have begun assembling at various temples in the city, particularly those of Sai Baba. Various schools had also celebrated the day with the students honouring their gurus (teachers). Some offered prayers to Maharshi Veda Vyasa to which Guru Purnima is dedicated. The East Shirdi Sai Baba temple in the East Point Colony had drawn scores of devotees, including HRD minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao, MLA V. Ramakrishna Babu and other officials.
Special prayers were offered in these temples. The temples were spruced up for the day with flowers and decorative lighting. The Sai Baba temples across the city were seen packed with thousands of devotees. On the other hand, the Simhachalam temple was also filled with lakhs of devotees, who participated in ‘Giri Pradakshina’, competing to get a glimpse of the Lord after their gruesome 32-km walk. The traffic came to a standstill in several parts in and around Simhachalam, including that on national highway.
