GUNTUR: IIT foundation course coaching would be taken up in the government schools and Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu is likely to launch the programme on July 29. The Guntur Municipal Corporation (GMC) will start the IIT foundation course coaching in the GMC run schools in Guntur city. The GMC introduced IIT foundation course last year which helped nearly 1,000 students of classes X, IX and VIII on an experimental basis. The course got good response from the students, so the GMC decided to offer IIT foundation course on regular basis. The students and parents are welcoming the decision.
The GMC last year had offered IIT foundation course to the students of classes VIII, IX and Xth. As many as 419 students of class X, 290 students of class IX and 207 students of class VIII joined the foundation course last year. This year it would be implemented to the students of classes VI to Xth. Students, B. Hari and others said that private and corporate schools are offering IIT foundation course from lower classes. So, the GMC is implementing the same in the GMC schools which would be very much helpful to the students. They recalled that last year, teachers of Narayana Schools taught them the basics which helped them to learn Mathematics in easy methods and expressed happiness over the introduction of IIT foundation course from lower classes.
GMC additional commissioner R. Krishna Kapardhi said that two hours of extra classes would be taken to teach Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English subjects under IIT foundation course to the students. He recalled that last year IIT foundation course was started on the directions of minister for municipal administration P. Narayana and this gave good results as enrolment hasincreased in the GMC-run schools. He said that weekly tests would be held for the students and ranks would be given to the students who score good marks. IIT foundation course special teachers and trainers D. Venkateswara Rao and Ms Khyathi will give IIT foundation course training to the GMC teachers. Mr Kapardhi said that CM Mr Naidu will launch the IIT foundation course on July 29 and asked the parents to make good use of GMC-run schools which are offering corporate-like education.
