Tirupati urban cops set up 95 complaint boxes in city
Tirupati: People hesitating to go to the police station or knowing some crucial information can now inform the same to the cops and even drop their complaints in boxes installed by the cops at several thoroughfares across the Tirupati Urban district.
The initiative was taken up as part of the police-public outreach programme.
As many as 95 complaint boxes were set up in Tirupati city alone. Boxes have been installed in Tirumala and Srikalahasthi too, in the purview of the Tirupati.
Five complaint boxes were installed under each police station limits, including East division, Tiruchanoor, Alipiri, West division, SVU, M.R. Palli, Chandragiri, Ranugunta Urban, Gajulamandyam, Yerpedu, Vadama-lapeta, RC Puram, 5 police stations in Srikalahasthi sub-division and two stations under Tirumala sub-division.
Tirupati (Urban) district SP K.K.N. Anburajan said that the complaint boxes have been installed at vital points in the purview of each police station across the district.
“The police-public outreach programme was instituted by DGP Gowtham Sawang across all districts in the state. The programme aims at collecting information directly from the people about their concerns regarding security in their areas and also to give suggestions on better policing or other issues that they are facing,” he added.
Explaining about the functioning of the initiative, the SP said that the network will be under the control of the SP and that all the the complaints will reach his office through a special branch.
“Each box will be assigned to one staffer in the SB and he is responsible for maintaining the complaint box and ensuring that all the issues raised by the public are taken to the notice of the SP,” he said.
At the same time, the SP appealed to the citizens not to drop personal complaints in the boxes.
He said, “Whenever a major crime like a robbery or a murder for gain occurs, the people near the place where the crime had occurred would observe movement of strangers and outsiders in their colony, because the criminal usually does a recce before committing the crime. The complaint box will help people inform the police about those involved in the crime and also in preventing more crimes,” the SP added.
