Mumbai cops in Kannur to probe Binoy

The woman claimed possession of crucial proof, like WhatsApp messages, photographs and other documents to prove her charges.

Thiruvananthapuram: The investigations into the case related to rape and cheating filed against Binoy Kodiyeri, elder son of CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, gained momentum on Wednesday with a two-member Mumbai police team arriving in Kannur to carry out a joint probe along with their Kerala counterparts.

Sub-inspectors Vinayak Jadhav and Dayanand Pawar called on Kannur SP Pratheesh Kumar and discussed the issues. The Mumbai cops also tried to get in touch with Binoy Kodiyeri. “We could not contact him as his mobile phone was switched off,” Jadhav told mediapersons in Kannur.

Meanwhile, in Mumbai, Mr Shailesh Pasalwad, senior police inspector of Oshiwara police station, said the case was being investigated extensively and that the claims made by the complainant were being examined closely. “Binoy has been booked under Indian Penal Code (IPC) Sections 420 (cheating) and 376 (rape),” he added. The police has filed the FIR before an Andheri court.

Sources said Binoy, who fears arrest in the case, was planning to move court for anticipatory bail. He had accused the complainant of blackmailing tactics and said he would fight the case legally.

Reacting to the allegation about an eight-year-old son from their relationship, Binoy said there are ways through which one can scientifically examine and establish the parentage. “I am ready for any such examination,” he added.

In her complaint, the 33-year-old woman alleged that Binoy had sexually assaulted her on the pretext of marriage. She got acquainted with Binoy while working as a bar dancer in Dubai. The complainant claimed she has a child from the relationship. The FIR for sexual assault, cheating and intimidation had already been registered against Binoy following a complaint from the Mumbai-based victim who belongs to Bihar. She had registered the case at the Andheri Oshiwara police station on June 13.

According to the complaint, Binoy and the woman were in a relation since 2008 while she was working at a dance bar in Dubai. Binoy had promised to marry her. However, despite several pleas he cheated her. After she came to know that he was already married, she decided to file a police complaint.

The woman made it clear on Tuesday that she would go ahead with the case notwithstanding the pressure. She claimed possession of crucial proof, like WhatsApp messages, photos and other documents to prove her charges.
