Kummanam hails NKP move on Sabari bill

The Congress will also support the Bill which seeks to maintain the status quo prevailing there before September 1 last year.

Thiruvananthapuram: The state BJP is confused over RSP MP N. K. Premachandran's move to bring a private Bill on the Sabarimala issue in the Lok Sabha on Friday.

Though former BJP state president Kummanam Rajasekharan has welcomed it, other leaders, including state president P. S. Sreedaran Pillai, have refused to comment on it.

Kummanam maintained that there was no need to see politics in such a move. "Premachandran has taken the same stand as that of the BJP on the Sabarimala issue. The BJP had organised a slew of protests to safeguard customs. It doesn't matter who has come up with such a Bill," said Kummanam here.

The Congress will also support the Bill which seeks to maintain the status quo prevailing there before September 1 last year.

The Bill named Sabarimala Sree Dharma Sastha Temple (Special Provision) Bill 2019 is the first private one in the 17th Lok Sabha.

It aims to prevent the violation of customs at Sabarimala again with the entry of women pilgrims.

Usually, private Bills are dismissed. The state BJP leadership is taking a wait-and-watch policy with uncertainty over the stand being taken by the central BJP.

The Sabarimala Karma Samithi led by S. J. R. Kumar said that a comprehensive legislation was required on the issue.
