Hyderabad: An online petition demanding removal of child lock from taxis for safety of women and others has garnered 46 signatures so far. The petition, initiated by a person named Rynngr, stated that rape cases and abuses in taxis are at an all-time high.
A girl taking a late night cab should be able to take one with confidence and without fear. If the passenger door has child lock enabled on these plying taxis, it is almost impossible to escape an assault.
Child-locks are required only in private vehicles when a kid might be in the back, unattended by an adult.
The online petition is addressed to the government of India, Ministry of Road Transport and Safety, mayors, police departments, state governments and everyone who is in a position to introduce this law for the safety of women and others.
