Dry weather conditions forecast till Friday

Fresh system may develop over Bay of Bengal by weekend.

Hyderabad: A fresh weather system that will revive the weak monsoon currents is likely to develop over the Bay of Bengal by this weekend and this condition will bring rains not just in Southern states but pan India, say weathermen.

Until June 22 the present dry weather conditions with rising temperatures are likely to prevail over Telangana and Andhra Pradesh; the monsoon will revive from June 23 onwards.

Currently, the states of Maharashtra, Karnataka and Goa are receiving heavy rainfall due to a cyclonic circulation prevailing over this region while the rest of the country is witnessing a rise in temperatures as a result of dry hot north-westerly winds.

Mr Mahesh Palawat, Vice-President, Meteorology & Climate change, Skymet, explained, “Since June 11, North-Western India is receiving dry hot winds from Afghanistan and South Iran. The winds are dry and hot in nature because they originate from regions that have no water bodies. Entire Central and South India are covered by dusty winds that prevail up to 25,000 feet from the ground level and, as a result, the days are turning hot. Also, there is no weather system (depression, trough) over the Bay of Bengal or the Arabian Sea to counter these westerly winds as this condition has weakened the monsoon currents too”.

The weathermen have indicated that the fresh system that will develop over the Bay of Bengal by the weekend is likely to progress towards coastal Andhra Pradesh and South Telangana and strengthen the currents and thus this will bring rains from June 23 or 24. The intensity of the rains is likely to pick up from June 25th onwards and likely to last up to month end, weather models indicate.

However, until the rains gain strength, the scanty spell at irregular intervals will continue in Telangana up to June 22.
