Yoga Day in Telangana is simply another day
Hyderabad: Yoga day (June 21) presents a contrasting picture in the states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh as far as schools are concerned.
The Andhra Pradesh government is going all-out to conduct Yoga Day on a grand scale in all government and private schools. However, similar zeal is not being seen in the school education department of Telangana. There doesn’t appear to be any Yoga related buzz at government schools in the ten districts. Private institutions, especially those in the twin-cities, have plans to conduct any programme.
P. Vinay of Private Schools Association said that they will be conducting programmes like essay writing and elocution competitions for students on Yoga. With admission season going on now, the programme will be low-profile without much hype, he said.
According to him, most schools have made Yoga a regular activity in their academic schedule and students and parents are voluntarily taking up the training classes (two per week) given benefits like improved focus and concentration in studies.
Meridian Schools, one of the leading international schools will be conducting Yoga related programme in its campuses on June 21. Principal Usha Reddy stated that they have been doing it for the last two years and this time it would be no different.
A member of a teachers union said, “TDP government, being part of the NDA alliance, is leaving no stone unturned to please higher-ups in New Delhi by responding to their call. Telangana administration, which is having a bitter sweet relationship with the Centre, chose not to take it too seriously.’’
