Tamil Nadu employees want permanent jobs
Chennai: Facing uncertainty over their future in the event of prohibition being implemented in the state, Tasmac employees on Sunday demanded that the Tamil Nadu government provide them with an alternative job that is “permanent” in nature.
The employees of the 500 shops shut down on Sunday have been accommodated in other Tasmac shops that are functioning within their district. However, the employees are unhappy with the move saying they want a permanent job.
“I am an employee of a Tasmac shop in Velachery that was shut down on Sunday. We have been given the choice of getting accommodated in a different Tasmac shop. But we want a job in any other government department that is of permanent nature since the government seems determined to implement prohibition,” Durai Murugan, honorary president of Tasmac employees union said.
He says the Tasmac employees have no problems even if the government implements prohibition at one time provided they promise permanent placement elsewhere to those who would lose their jobs. Another office-bearer, Ramu, says Tasmac employees have been working as government servants for the past 13 years and they should be rehabilitated in government jobs soon. “Let the government implement prohibition, but let them provide jobs to us first,” he said.
