Wild bears resurface in Coonoor, create scare
COONOOR: The resurfacing of a female sloth bear with its two cubs strolling in and around the tea gardens in Halakkarai village limits near Coonoor has instantly brought scare to the villagers there.
Though this bear carrying two of its cubs on its back and was found moving around the tea gardens a week ago, it disappeared into woods, as the forest teams posted there could not trace them again in the tea garden areas for the past one week.
When it was assumed that the bear family vanished into the deep woods and will not be making any trouble again, things changed as this bear family turned out to be troublesome, straaying back again to the tea gardens in the human settlements around the Halakkarai village.
Instantly scared by the stray bear and the cubs, the villagers wanted the forest department to take effective steps to place cages in wanton points to capture and relocate this bear and its cubs as the movement of bear pose threat to the plantation workers as well as the children playing around.
