Outdoor activities can fight kids’ short sight: Expert

Kochi: Advanced technologies and new generation intra ocular lenses provide better safety and visual outcomes in cataract surgery, according to ophthalmic experts attending the two-day conference on advanced cataract and refractive surgeries (ACReS) held here say.

Inaugurating the conference, Dr S. Sasikumar, president, Kerala Society of Ophthalmic Surgeons, expressed concern at the increasing number of shortsight among children. He exhorted doctors and parents to encourage children to engage in more outdoor activities to decrease the incidence of refractive errors.

Saikumar, medical superintendent and head of cataract and glaucoma, Giridhar Eye Institute, and Dr Sandhya N. spoke. More than 100 ophthalmic experts and invited faculty are attending the conference.
