MG varsity lets in 11 self-financing colleges for CAP
Kochi: Though the MG University had excluded 13 self-financing arts and science colleges last week from the PG and UG Central Allotment Process (CAP) for admissions, it has now included all except two colleges. The university has done this after securing an undertaking from them that they will fulfil the UGC criterion on the land required for the colleges in the coming academic year.
The 13 colleges that were excluded from UG CAP are Sree Narayana Paramahamsa College, Poonjar; Sree Dharma Sastha College, Neryamangalam; YMCA College, Aluva; MES College for Advanced Studies, Edathala; Father Porukara CMI College of Advanced Studies, Champakulam, Alappuzha; Aman College, Payippad, Kottayam; College of Applied Science, Kanjirappally; College of Applied Science, Puthenvelikkara, Ernakulam; Kesari Arts and Science College, North Paravur; College of Applied Sciences, Kattappana; HM Arts and Science College, Randarkara, Ernakulam; CET College, Airapuram, Ernakulam and Sree Narayana College, Kedamangalam.
The colleges excluded from PG CAP were HM Arts and Science College, Randarkara, Ernakulam; CET College, Airapuram, Ernakulam; College of Applied Science, Kattappana; Sree Narayana College, Kedamangalam and MES College for Advanced Studies, Edathala.
Now only Kesari Arts and Science College, North Paravur, and CET College, Airapuram, are excluded from the CAP process as they failed to execute an agreement before the university to meet the UGC requirements in the coming academic year.
Syndicate Affiliation Committee convener Prof Tomichan Joseph told DC that the extension of affiliation to the colleges was given for the coming academic year considering the future of the students. "They will have to comply with the UGC requirements within the next academic year, or else they will lose affiliation. This is the last chance given," said Tomichan.
He also said that a probe should be conducted into the circumstances under which affiliation was initially given and then renewed in subsequent years for such colleges which did not meet the UGC norms. "If stringent inspection was undertaken initially, such issues would not have cropped up. Now it has become a headache for us," he said. A few other colleges, including SNGIST Arts and Science College, North Paravur, were included earlier in CAP .
