HMDA to demolish illegal layouts first

Following directions of Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MAUD) secretary Mr Arvind Kumar.

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) has decided to embark on yet another demolition drive to demolish unauthorised constructions. However, officials claimed that they will proceed with the drive only after demolishing the 713 illegal layouts that have already been identified.

Following directions of Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MAUD) secretary Mr Arvind Kumar, the HMDA authorities recently held an 11-day drive to identify the illegal layouts in its jurisdiction. In addition to the previously identified 196 unauthorised layouts, the municipal authority in its current drive had identified as many as 125 illegal layouts in Ghatkesar zone, 189 in Shankarpally zone, 150 in Medchal zone, and 129 in Shamshabad zone.

A senior HMDA official said that the municipal authority along with the police and assistant planning officers, junior planning officers, and planning officers will first demolish the existing layouts for which notices have already been issued to the developers and owners concerned. "After completely eradicating the layouts within the stipulated time, the HMDA will embark on a drive to identify illegal constructions across the four zones in its jurisdiction. Any offices who fail to curtail such constructions will be subjected to disciplinary action."
