High voting percentage will not favour BJP: Priyank Kharge

People have cast their votes to uphold the values of democracy and punish those who think voters are there in their pocket, says Priyank Kharge.

Kalaburagi: Kalburagi district incharge Minister Priyank Kharge, who led the campaign in Chincholi along with Deputy Chief Minister Dr G Parameshwar, on Sunday exuded confidence that the Congress party candidate Subash Rathod would win the bypoll.

"People have cast their votes to uphold the values of democracy and punish those who think voters are there in their pocket,"he said. When his attention was drawn to the higher voting per centage that took place in the constituency, Mr Priyank said, "it's quite natural that in a by-election voting percentage is higher. And this bypoll is no exception. But we hope that people will bless us".

Mr Priyank did not agree with the view that high percentage of voting meant the poll result would go in favour of the BJP and a low percentage in favour of the Congress. "More people taking part in the democratic process is a good sign. We were expecting 65 to 69 per cent turnout. My assessment is that the voters of the constituency will teach Dr Umesh Jadhav (former Chincholi MLA and father of BJP candidate Avinash Jadhav ) a lesson. Notwithsanding the high per centage of voting, our candidate will win. I don't agree with the view that a high voting percentage will favour the BJP candidate".
