Food safety seals KSRTC canteen

According to the officials, a raid has been carried out on Saturday following complaints from the passengers.

Alappuzha: The Kayamkulam KSRTC canteen, where long-distance buses used to halt for meals, has been sealed by food safety officials due to unhygienic atmosphere.

According to the officials, a raid has been carried out on Saturday following complaints from the passengers.

“The edible items at the canteen were kept in open letting flies to cover. Pests and cockroaches were found among waste materials inside the storeroom,” they said.

The officials also collected sample of the oil used for preparing food for lab test. The ice materials and vegetables were kept in the refrigerator along with meat and fishes which had gone bad.

The official asked the canteen owners to take steps to end the menace of flies and repair the ramshackle floors. The consent to operate the canteen will be given only after maintaining hygiene standards. The raid was led by food safety officials Arunku-mar, Ravikumar, Yasira Ahamed.
