Telangana: Government Schools to reopen in time for June 2

Dates changed for kids' participation.

Aidlabad: Government schools will be celebrating Telangana Formation Day for the first time this year after creation of Telangana state in 2014. The state government has changed the academic calendar taking the Formation Day celebrations from this year.

Earlier, there were no celebrations in government and private schools on June 2 as the schools generally used to reopen on June 12.

However, the reopening of schools has been preponed to June 1 from June 12 this year by changing the academic calendar by the Director of School Education.

As per the previous academic calendar, the last working day for schools was April 23. This has been changed to April 12 so that the number of holidays remains the same (48).

The change in the academic calendar was communicated to the schools in October, 2017.

Government teacher A. Venkat of Adilabad said they planned to celebrate Telangana Formation Day by hoisting the National Flag in government schools for the first time after formation of Telangana.

He said the schools will reopen on June 1 and they will spruce up the premises; however they may find the time not enough to host any cultural programmes to mark the day.

Mr Venkat said that generally, it takes about four days after reopening of the schools for attendance to pick.

Meanwhile, the state government has not yet finalised its state anthem.

The song — Jaya Jaya he Telangana… Jananee Jaya kethanam.. written by Ande Sri of Warangal has been sung unofficially by students in government and private schools.
