Hyderabad: Mystery over man who fell into nala continues
Hyderabad: Suspense continues over a death of a man who was reportedly washed away in a storm water channel in Kalapather during the rain on Thursday.
According to the residents of Mecca Colony, Kalapather, in the Old City, the man who is yet to be identified was said to be in his late thirties. He was crossing an inundated street when he slipped and fell in the nala and was washed away.
“I was in the shop when some people shouted about a man slipping into the nala. I tried to save him but the man had disappeared in the water by then,” said an embroidery worker Syed Chand. He said a couple of construction workers who were on a building on the other side of the nala too had witnessed the man being washed away.
The locals lodged a complaint with the police who inspected the spot after rain subsided. “We inspected the place and carried out salvage operations but to no avail. So far no one has lodged a complaint,” said Kalapather inspector M. Ravi. He said the police had informed the GHMC, whose personnel were keeping watch at the Musi river at Bahadurpura where the channel empties.
Mr Syed Qutbuddin, a local resident, said there are two big openings on the retaining walls of the nala and the man might have got washed away due to strong currents. “The eight feet wide lane was inundated. The water stood at five feet where the man slipped and was apparently washed away,” he said.
