About 30,000 people visit International Rail Coach Expo
Chennai: The three-day International Rail Coach Expo (IRCE) at the Integral Coach Factory (ICF), Perambur, attracted around 25,000-30,000 people including 2,000 registered business visitors.
The two segments at display had existing train components, designs and models available with the suppliers, which included train components and features of Chennai metro rail, while technologies yet to be adapted by the ICF was the other segment that had Train 18, a new train model that would be launched by ICF by the year end.
Among future projects, ICF presented its model of Nilgiris Mountain Railways, wherein ICF is going to manufacture coaches with futuristic designs for Nilgiris without compromising on its heritage. “The technologies displayed will be considered to be adapted for Indian Railways after discussion among the authorities.
The expo brought out the skills and potential of the suppliers at ICF. The expo was mainly intended to boost deliberation between various companies, clients and the ICF, however, even the public response was overwhelming,” said an official at ICF. Modern Coach Factory and Rail Coach Factory were also a part of the expo along with public sector units such as RITES and BEML.
The expo showcased coaches manufactured at ICF to delegations from 10 countries including Switzerland, China and Germany with nearly 82 exhibitors. ICF general manager S. Mani presided over the valedictory function of the expo.
