Telangana: 22,000 2BHKs almost ready
Hyderabad: With the government speeding up the works, construction of about 22,000 2BHKs is nearing completion, while another 18,000 houses are in various stages of construction across TS.
Approval has been accorded for the construction of 82,000 houses so far. The government has set a target of constructing 2.60 lakh 2BHKs this year, of which 1 lakh would be in GHMC limits alone.
“This is for the first time in the country that 2BHK houses are being provided to poor for free. Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao has devised the 2BHK housing scheme in such a manner that government will bear the entire expense and there is no need for beneficiaries to contribute even a single paisa,” said housing minister A. Indrakaran Reddy.
He reviewed the progress of 2BHKs in old Mahbubnagar district on Friday by visiting the construction sites.
“Progress was slow in all districts in the first two years as contractors did not come forward to take up projects. After the government offered subsidised cement, free sand and other incentives, the pace of work picked up in the last six months,” he added.
Mr Reddy said that the CM had allotted 1,400 2BKHs for each Assembly constituency.
In GHMC limits, construction activity has commenced in 18 locations.
The government is keen to complete 2.60 lakh 2BHKs and hand them over to beneficiaries before the 2019 elections to ensure that the Opposition is unable to go to the people saying that the TRS failed to fulfil its 2014 poll promise.
