Most students clear SSLC hurdle in Tamil Nadu

Maths and Science subjects witnessed a dip in a number of students securing centum.

CHENNAI: With the SSLC students recording the highest pass percentage of 94.4% this year, 39.5% of the students scored in excess of 400 marks.

Many schools are already witnessing tough competition for Plus-1 admissions this year. Compared to the previous year, the pass percentage has witnessed a slight increase of 0.8%. Girl students have reportedly outperformed boys with 96.2% of them clearing the exam against 92.5% among boys. Of 9.82 lakh candidates who had written the exam through schools, 9.26 lakh cleared it.

A record 38,613 students have secured above 481 marks. Over 3.66 lakh students scored in the range of 301-400 marks. Of 12,188 schools, 5,059 (41.5%) got 100% results. In a big improvement 1,557 government schools have got centum results this year.

Maths and Science subjects witnessed a dip in a number of students securing centum. Compared to last year, the centum is 4,995 less this year in Maths and in Science 1,161 less. Social science has seen a huge jump of 21,717 more students securing full marks this year. In Tamil, 69 students scored centum.

As in the Plus-2 results, Virudhunagar got the first place among the districts with 98.55%, closely followed by Kanyakumari (98.17%) and Ramanathapuram (98.16%).

203 prisoners clear exam
Of 228 prisoners from Tamil Nadu jails who appeared for the SSLC examination, as many as 203, including 9 women inmates, passed. Of the 203 who passed, Abubakkar Siddique Ali, (39), a member of banned outfit Al Uma and a life convict in Palayamkottai prison topped the list with 422 marks out of 500. Neelakandan (25), lodged in Puzhal prison came second with 415 marks and Senthil Murugan from Trichy Central prison secured third place among prisoners with 411 marks.
