Bengaluru: Proposed KIA metro route draws flak
Bengaluru: Transport experts have raised objection to Bengaluru Development Minister K.J. George’s recent announcement stating that BMRCL's route to KIA will pass through Nagawara, Hegde Nagar, Jakkur, Yelahanka and then run along the existing KIA airport road.
"If metro rail comes towards our right, that is, from Hebbal towards Yelahanka, it will affect us. It will make take-offs, landing and flying impossible ," said Akshay, a Manager at Jakkur Aerodrome.
"There is no way Metro will go over or under the flyover, near Jakkur. This means, they will have to shut down Jakkur flying school. This proposal will not take off as the Yelahanka Air base will also be compromised. The Ministry of Defence and even the Union Government will not agree," said Sanjeev Dyamnavar, Transport expert from Praaja RAAG.
There are a few other pre-requisites before the officials can make any public announcements. "The route will have to be discussed in the state cabinet. BMRCL will have to work with Railways, Airport and Indian Air Force authorities. There needs to be an approval from the Defence Minstry, which is unlikely," Sanjeev added.
