Thiruvananthapuram: Health minister K.K. Shailaja told the Assembly that the state government had created 1,394 new posts in the existing medical colleges.
She was replying to an adjournment notice given by Mr M. Ummer on the student strike at Manjeri Medical College. The minister blamed the former UDF government for starting new medical colleges without providing adequate infrastructure and said there was a shortage of faculty in the general surgery department of the Manjeri Medical College. The government could secure the permission for making admissions to the Manjeri Medical College for the 2017-18 academic year from the MCI overcoming constrains. It has created 26 new teaching and non-teaching staff posts in the college. An amount of Rs 146 crore has been earmarked in the KIIFB for it.
WannaCry: Law minister A.K. Balan said that the state government’s IT policy based on free and open-source software had helped insulate the state from the WannaCry ransomware virus.
The ransomware attack was not as extensive as in other parts of the country due to the free software-based IT policy implemented during the previous LDF rule, said Mr Balan who replied on behalf of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan to a calling attention motion moved by P. Ubaidulla. Mr Balan said that computers in six panchayats were hit by the virus.
Sand price revision: PWD minister G. Sudhakaran while replying to a submission by Opposition Leader Ramesh Chennithala said that an inquiry will be conducted into suppression of the file related to sand price revision.
It was lying with a section of finance department for the past three years. There were complaints that the file was deliberately suppressed by a section of officers, Mr Sudhakaran said.
