Visakhapatnam: Cyclone Roanu lay about 240 km southwest of Vizag in the west central Bay of Bengal on Thursday. It had moved for six hours at 10 kmph. The system is likely to move northeastwards along the AP and Odisha coasts and intensify into a severe cyclonic storm.
If it maintains its current course, It is likely to cross the south Bangladesh coast between Khepupara and Cox’s Bazaar in May 21 night or early morning on May 22. Under the influence of the cyclonic storm heavy rainfall at most places with heavy to very heavy falls at a few places and isolated extremely heavy falls very likely over coastal Andhra Pradesh during next 24 hours and heavy to very heavy at a few places during subsequent 24 hours.
Winds gusting to 110 kmph are very likely to prevail along and off the north Andhra Pradesh coasts the during next 12 hours, and 120 kmph during the next 36 hours.
The IMD department predicted that damage to thatched huts, minor damage to power and communication lines and major damage to kuccha and minor damage to pucca roads over coastal Andhra Pradesh during next 48 hours.
Under the influence of Cyclone Roanu, Khammam and Karimnagar districts of Telangana received moderate rain. Rain was reported at Aswaraopeta, Madhira and Julurpad of Khammam and Manthani of Karimnagar of Telangana.
