Thiruvananthapuram: TC not must for students of unrecognised schools

An entrance exam conducted by the headmaster is mandatory.

Thiruvananthapuram: The students of unrecognised schools, including those that follow CBSE syllabus, can join government schools from the present academic year without transfer certificate. However, they should pass the annual examination.

As per the norm, a student who is in class-I in an unrecognised school will be allowed to join class-II in a government or aided school in the next academic year.

The general education department had earlier asked all unaided schools functioning without recognition to close down and enroll students from class-I to VIII in nearby government or aided schools. The unrecognised schools have to stop working as per the norms in the Right to Education Act.

The government will issue an order valid for one year allowing students of unrecognised schools from class 2 to class 10 to join government schools. The validity will be renewed every year.

As the unrecognised schools have no right to issue transfer certificates, the students are allowed to join government schools without TC. However, the students of government and aided schools should get a TC for changing the school, sources said.

Though the students can directly join classes from 2 to 10, an entrance examination conducted by the headmaster is mandatory. The examination will be based on the textbook of the previous standard of the class to which the student seeks admission covering all subjects, said sources.

Aadhar card and birth certificates are mandatory for joining government schools. Students who had to discontinue their studies will be allowed to directly join class 10. However, they should have completed 14 years of age by the beginning of the academic year and pass the entrance examination.
