Special wing of UIDAI to probe IT Grids case

It is suspected that the data from Punjab was leaked from the Central Identity Data Repository which is under the control of the UIDAI.

Hyderabad: A separate wing of the Unique Identification Authority of India, called the Enforcement Directorate, will carry out a parallel investigation into how the Hyderabad based info-tech company IT Grids (India) Private Limited came to be in the possession of Aadhaar data of 9.8 crore card-holders from Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Punjab.

The data-theft case is currently being probed by a special team formed by the TS police and scientifically investigated by the TS forensic science department.

In the latest development, the investigators have found that the info-tech company maintained data of two crore card holders based in Telangana. It is suspected that the data from Punjab was leaked from the Central Identity Data Repository which is under the control of the UIDAI.

The UIDAI has denied any breach at their end. In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Aadhaar issuing authority said that its Central Identities Data Repository (CIDR) and servers are completely safe and fully secure.
