KOCHI: The Ernakulam Central police on Friday has arrested Binil Somasundaram for making Facebook and Twitter posts containing explicit religious hatred in connection with the bringing of a newborn baby with congenital heart disease for treatment to Ernakulam from Mangalore. The police has registered a case under section 153-A causing for spreading religious hatred against Somasundaram, a native of Kadavoor in Ernakulam, after his post became a talking point in the media.

The 18-day-old baby was brought to a private hospital in Kochi on Tuesday from Mangalore. A state-wide coordination was made for the ambulance carrying the baby for a smooth ride to Kochi from Mangalore. Although the media was full of support for the journey with live-updates the controversial comments made by Somasundaram alluding at the religion of the new born baby has created consternation in the society.

Objecting the facilities provided by the state agencies for the smooth ride of the ambulance he said that the state and others are facilitating such a trip because the baby is an ‘offspring of Jehadi’. Although he withdrew the Facebook following the outcry and tried to disassociate from the post by saying that somebody has hacked his Facebook account his Twitter handle continued to display the same message. He has described himself as a servant of Hindu Rahstra.

He has been arrested from Nedumkandam by a police team from Kochi. The police also seized the mobile phone allegedly used by the accused to make the controversial comments.
