Kerala: Elections, time to chill out, perhaps

According to IMD officials, a more accurate picture on the rainfall on the polling day would be available on Saturday.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: After the heat and dust of campaigning, the polling day on April 23 is likely to be quite cool with the Indian Meteorological Department predicting light to moderate rainfall across the state on Tuesday. All the 14 districts are likely to receive 2.5 mm to 64.4 mm rainfall.

The IMD has predicted thunderstorm accompanied by gusty winds and lightning at isolated placed on Tuesday when the polling will be held from 7 am to 6 pm
The Kerala State Disaster Management Authority (KSDMA) has warned the public of lightning between 2 pm and 8 pm.

According to IMD officials, a more accurate picture on the rainfall on the polling day would be available on Saturday.

Chief Electoral Officer Teeka Ram Meena has asked the district collectors to take precautionary measures in view of the rain prediction.

Heavy rainfall may occur at one or two places in Palakkad district on Saturday.

The KSDMA has sounded a high alert in Palakkad, Malappuram and Thrissur districts as heavy rainfall could lead to landslides.

Rain accompanied by gusty winds occurred in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Wayanad and Kannur districts on Friday.
