Telugu states not implementing Disabilities Act' 'act: M Veeraiah

M. Veeraiah said that the new Act provides rights to education, health, social security, accessibility, and others.

Hyderabad: TPCC Handicapped Cell chairman M. Veeraiah has requested Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan to direct both the Telugu states to implement the rights of the persons according to the Disabilities Act 2016.

Speaking to the media on Thursday he said that even after one year the TS and AP governments are not implementing the Act. He said the central government enacted rights of the persons under Disabilities Act 2016, appointed the date on June 15, 2017, and also notified the rules. He also said that the new law recognised 21 types of disabilities.

He went on further to point out that prior to this Act there were only 7 categories. M. Veeraiah said that the new Act provides rights to education, health, social security, accessibility, and others. He said according to the Act, state governments are expected to notify the state rules within six months after the notification of the central government but, unfortunately, none of the state governments have notified the rules.
