Tamil Nadu: Raj Bhavan rolls out red carpet to public

Those interested can visit Raj Bhavan by first registering online through the website www.tnrajbhavan.gov.in.

CHENNAI: The historic Raj Bhavan in Guindy, spread over sprawling 150 acres of land and housing rare flora and fauna, will be thrown open to the public from Friday. Opening the gates to the common man, Governor CH.Vidyasagar Rao said, “The public will have the opportunity to visit Raj Bhavan in Chennai as done in Rashtrapati Bhavan, New Delhi, and Raj Bhavan in Mumbai.”

He made the announcement at a function in Anna University on Wednesday. “This will provide an opportunity for the public to not only see the historic place but to be one with nature and enjoy the green cover,” he said. The Raj Bhavan campus has spotted deer, black buck and albino, mongoose, jackals, many varieties of reptiles and a large number of birds like partridges and pheasants.

Those interested can visit Raj Bhavan by first registering online through the website www.tnrajbhavan.gov.in and booking their date of visit on payment of Rs 25 per head. The visits will be allowed from 4.30 pm to 6.30 pm on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. The visitors will get SMS confirmation and email acknowledgement. They have to carry the original ID card along with the copy of an email received by them.
