MK Stalin demands Assembly session to vote on grants

He said the budget session had not been completed and only the Speaker has the powers to resume the session.

CHENNAI: Leader of Opposition M.K. Stalin on Wednesday submitted a petition to Speaker P. Dhanapal to convene the Assembly session to vote on the demands on the grants for various departments. Stalin, speaking to the media, said he waited for about half an hour to submit a similar petition Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palanisami, but he did not meet him.

In his petition, Stalin said budget was tabled a month ago in the Assembly session, but the discussion on demands for grants to various ministries had not been taken up. He said the demand for grants to the departments should be put to vote to pass them in the Assembly. He said the budget session had not been completed and only the Speaker has the powers to resume the session.

Major problems including drinking water scarcity should be discussed in the Assembly, he said and added that the administration had been paralysed. Tamil Nadu farmers had been subjected to misery and they are protesting in New Delhi, Stalin said and the Assembly should discuss the protest and pass resolutions to find a solution to farmers’ problems, he said. The ministers are meeting each other to sort out their problems, but they are not meeting the farmers who are protesting in Delhi, he added.
