Karnataka: Appointments in universities under new panel?
Bengaluru: The higher education department has decided to set up a centralised agency, in line with the Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA), to fill up all the vacancies in the state-run universities. The decision was taken after complaints of rampant corruption in recent appointments.
Sources said that on Wednesday, a high-powered committee appointed by the state government held talks with vice-chancellors of all state universities and collected their feedback. "The University Grants Commission issued a circular in 2016, directing all the states to bring changes in university appointments. There is a need to amend the State Universities Act and change the statutes of individual universities. The meeting discussed all these issues," said an officer.
"We will submit a report to the governor, who is the chancellor of universities," he said.
