Hyderabad residents rescue a peafowl from drain

After it is cleared by a veterinarian, it will be released into a natural habitat or at a national park.

Hyderabad: A peafowl was rescued from a drain in Dabeerpura on Wednesday. Locals who rescued the bird handed it over to the Dabeerpura police who sent it to the forest department.

Forest officials say the peafowl was doing fine and was being handed over to the Hyderabad Nehru Zoological Park. After it is cleared by a veterinarian, it will be released into a natural habitat or at a national park.

A senior forest official said, “A lot of people had gathered when they observed the peafowl. We will release the bird in a day or two at a national park as healthy animals should not be kept in the zoo.”

It was not clear where the bird came from. Officials have still not been able to establish where a crocodile that was found in a drain in Amberpet came from.
