KARIMNAGAR: Parents of school children, and others are all worried because of the recent increase in the number of Covid-19 positive cases in erstwhile Karimnagar district.

Around 32 students studying in government girls residential schools of Jagtial and Rajanna Sircilla districts along with five teachers tested positive.

Nearly 230 students study in girls residential schools in Jagtial. Of them 20 students are suffering from Covid-19 symptoms. Suspecting contraction of coronavirus, the school management organised a medical camp in the school and conducted tests. A total of 22, including 17 students and five teachers tested positive. They have been put in isolation.

In Konaraopet mandal of Rajanna Sircilla district, 15 students studying in Kasturba Gandhi Girls High school tested positive. The school has a strength of 62 students.

Health officer of Konaraopet mandal Dr.Mohan Krishna said that the students who tested positive have shifted to special rooms and are getting treatment.

Few days back, around 20 members from the same village contracted coronavirus in Guddelugulapally village of Velichala in Jagtial district after returning from the Maha-Shivarathri jatara.

On Wednesday, Veenavankam Assistant Sub-inspector of police, deputed to Vemulawada for the Maha Shivarathri jatara succumbed while undergoing treatment for coronavirus.

The health officials are suspecting that Vemulawada might be a common link to all the recent cases, including the Rajanna Sircilla and Jagtial students.

Officials appealed to the people who visited Vemulawada recently to be cautious and undergo tests on a priority basis.

It should be recalled that in February, around 37 persons, who were at the final rites of an individual in Chegurthi village, Karimnagar, tested positive along with five staff members of Basant Nagar toll gate in Ramagundam of Peddapalli district. A ninth standard student studying at Zilla Parishad High School of Jammikunta tested positive on March 4.
