Kerala HC to Preetha: Work at Ernakulam GH
Kochi: The High Court on Tuesday directed Preetha Shaji and her husband Shaji to undertake the caring of patients in the palliative care unit of the Ernakulam General hospital for 100 hours as a punishment for contempt of court case against them. The services should be rendered from 9.45 am to 4 pm and could be stopped after completing 100 hours.
The court said failure to complete 100 hours will invite further contempt action.
The court on Monday had directed the Ernakulam district collector to fix an appropriate social service for Preetha Shaji and her husband after the court found both guilty in violating the court order to hand over the house and property to the person who had won the same in an auction held as per the verdict of the debt recovery tribunal. The collector had suggested caring of inmates of Thevara old age home, children's home in Kakkanad or the general hospital.
The struggle by Preetha Shaji and her family spearheaded by the Anti-Sarfaesi People's Movement against the DRT order had received nation-wide attention with many persons highlighting the incident as a lopsided practice of the banking system in the country.
