Malappuram: The district revenue authorities began the land survey for the National Highway 66 expansion on Monday in Kuttippuram amid local resistance.
The authorities completed the survey procedures, which began on 8 am from the signal junction to Railway Bridge in Kuttippuram town, using force. As per the solicitation from the revenue authorities, police deployed more forces in the area to block protesters attempting to thwart the survey before reaching the spot. The police had also stepped up vigil to stop protesters from outside entering areas.
Deputy collector in charge of the NH land acquisition J.O. Arun said the survey would be resumed early morning on Tuesday as per schedule. The revenue officials also convened a meeting of landowners of Valanchery municipal area on Monday to hear from them. The affected land and building owners had announced that they would block the survey at any cost if the authorities go ahead without announcing the compensation package.
Followed by the threat, Tirur DySP had issued a notice to the protesting landowners warning stern actions if they block the survey. Meanwhile, the NH action council leaders said they would step up the protest. The council demands to settle of complaints and announce the compensation package before the survey. They have also decided to marches to the residences of MLAs and MPs in the district.
