Hyderabad: IT zone wears helmets, violates parking rules
Hyderabad: Thanks to intense publicity drives and regular counselling, Cyberabad police says that more two-wheeler riders are wearing helmets. There is a steep decline in helmet rule violation cases in Cyberabad — from 3,448 in January 2016 to 1,269 January this year, and from 3,861 in February last year to 1,900 in February this year.
Parking illegally now tops the list of violations here. In January, traffic police booked 332 cases and another 672 in February. The figures for the year-ago period were 213 and 151. Cyberabad ACP P. Ashok attributed the increased use of helmets to regular counselling.
He said that parking was the biggest problem and police was counselling motorists not to violate the rule. He admitted that there were no zones to park vehicles.
Mr S, Adishankar, secretary of the road safety NGO Road Craft, said that most of the shopping malls have adequate parking place but the smaller shops and restaurants don’t have space. “If there is no parking space, obviously wrongful parking cases will increase,” he said.
