Land is Rs 750 crore in legal business
Hyderabad: Justice Dilip B. Bhosale, Acting Chief Justice of Hyderabad High Court and Chancellor of Nalsar University of Law said on Saturday that land disputes were proving extremely costly for the poor and marginalised. Justice Bhosale was speaking at the inauguration of an auditorium at Nalsar in Hyderabad.
“Land is precious in India. Paralegals should work towards securing title, possession and record of rights so that the right of the poor over land remains secure, authentic and undisputed,” he said. Meanwhile, in his presidential address, Justice Anil R. Dave, Judge, Supreme Court of India, said land record-keeping system must become accessible and simple.
He added that according to an estimate, every year, land disputes are getting lawyers Rs 750 crore in fees alone. In his keynote address, Justice Dipak Misra, Judge, Supreme Court of India called paralegal workers a ‘working force’ in the favor of the poor and Justice N.V. Ramana, Judge, Supreme Court of India praised the work done by Nalsar and Landesa and asked them to work towards other entitlements of farmers such as insurance and land records. Speaking at the event, CM K. Chandrashekar Rao, praised the work done by the Centre for Tribal and Land Rights departments of Nalsar University.
